FAMILY ADDITION

A couple of days ago JOJO gave Mrs.G a box with a Monarch Butterfly Chrysolis in it yesterday we watched her emerge. It was quite a sight to watch, now we don't know if we are midwives, parents, nosy neighbours or just clingons. Here is a picture of her, and yes it is a her.

That is so cool.....I want some next year. Guess I have to go back into Terry's field and get milk weeds.

Very cool ... does that mean I have another sister, or would it be a niece since Jojo is a sister? I'm so confused!

Cherylinn, if you do plant milkweed make sure you keep it away from your horses. It's poisonous to livestock.

I just saw my first caterpillar morph into a chrysalis. Super cool!
In the past couple of days I've had 6 caterpillars morph into chrysalises, 3 more will likely morph tomorrow. . . .

Males have a black dot on the bottom of their wings and those lines on the wings are thinner.

PC, we got it from JOJO who got them from a butterfly factory.
I think she said it is near Baldwin.

Gryper's butterfly hatched from an egg in our garden. We purchased more milkweed at a nursery near Cambridge and they had lots of eggs on them. When the eggs hatch I bring them in and feed and clean daily. The one's that are caterpillars now will migrate to Mexico. Haven't seen any new eggs in the last couple of weeks so I guess they are finished for the season. Migration starts now and goes until first frost. The last of my caterpillars should be butterflies by Sept 25.
