Haliburton Spring

On Apr.13 we left K&W and went to C&J's so Susan could see the place. On the way in we drove through huge puddles into the cottage, in FWD. As we were leaving, in the process of turning around to get out, I heard a sight bump sound. With only one hearing aid in, just hearing it was a small miracle. We drove out through the mini-lakes and home. Then I discovered that I had no front license plate thus no val-tag either.

Ignoring the fact that Cops don't care if your license plate can't be read due to rust or plastic shields but do love this golden opportunity for an easy jabby if your val-tag is not visible, I drove all week without getting caught.

On Apr. 18 we returned to C&J"s mini ocean, bounced through it and on to their cottage where I retrieved the license and mounting bracket which had been pulled off last week by a snow covered stump, now visible. Not wanting to push my luck any farther and risk the wrath of Fantino's troups I reinstalled the bracket which is held in place by 2 tiny plastic THINGS then back out through the mini-ocean to the safety of asphalt.

On the way through more road lakes to K&W all the while enjoying all the beauty?? of spring and all it's wonders, the puddles, the washouts, the mud, the grey ice on the real lakes.
When we arrived at K&W"S , Ken was boiling the last of the maple syrup, the final yields of the greedy maple trees which had now decided to keep it to themselves.

Saturday we brought their trailer home and set it up on planks to keep it from disappearing in the mud then wash all the pails and equipment of making maple syrup.

The grey ice on the lake is too thick to swim or paddle in or allow reinstalling the dock and too thin to walk on so the dock was to wait for the proper liquid stuff to reappear.

SO that's Spring in Haliburton

You didn't mention the smell of the forest that was the smell of driving to Granny's ... or beautiful bugless sunny weather ... that will only be bugless for a few more days.

Trust you to mention only the "grypey" stuff.

But he mentioned the "grypey" stuff in such a pleasant, almost cheerful, way.

4 Wheel Drive....what a baby, I went through it and never even tought about 4 wheeling. When we arrived at the cottage on Sunday morning the grey ice was there but in front our our castle it was open water, so we fired up the pump and YAHOO! we have running water once again. But the time we left at 4:00pm the water was totally open, no ice left, we watched it vanish through out the day as we moved massive tree parts from the waters edge. We got all the huge ones and a lot of the smaller stuff moved, but there is so much clean up to be done. This Sunday we are going to go up do more and also take up some basement furniture.
